CPA Marketing With Wordpress

cpa-marketingIn case you didn’t already know, Wordpress is a great tool for CPA marketing.  Although a lot of us associate it with bloggers who don’ t make a ton of money, it’s also an extremely useful content management tool for those of us who know how to monetize a site.  You can create a blog, a portal site, or even a standard landing page.  Consider some of the ways you can use Wordpress as an affiliate…

  • Make a content-heavy blog.  Sometimes, you just need to focus on quality content.  It’s great to make simple landing pages or direct linking campaigns, but it’s also smart to have some quality sites that will stand the test of time.  Wordpress makes it exceptionally easy to do this.
  • Make a flog.  This isn’t exactly recommended, especially for US-based affiliates - but it’s a technique that many used for years.  People would create a fake blog (flog) and then put in fake entries recommending affiliate products.  People misunderstood the motives and bought the products.
  • Create a simple landing page.  Numerous software packages exist to turn Wordpress blogs into attractive landing pages.
  • Use it to add credibility to your landing page.  You can still use a regular landing page, but if you add a link to your blog, you can show people that you’re not just an affiliate, but a subject matter expert.

If you’re not familiar with Wordpress yet, you should be.  Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll have one more extremely powerful tool in your affiliate arsenal.

CPA Marketing: Lead Gen Ideas You Can Use

cpa-marketingLead generation offers are a cornerstone of any CPA marketing network.  Although you will find a fair number of per-sale offers, it’s the lead generation offers that are most popular.  They tend to be a bit easier across many traffic sources, especially since they don’t require users to get out a credit card.

To promote lead generation offers, you need to think about the mindset of your user and how you can locate that user.  Let’s consider a few examples.

  • For a scholarship lead-gen offer, you want to find people who are either in high school, or who may have skipped/dropped out of college the first time around.  Sites like Facebook and Yahoo! Answers are especially effective for these markets.
  • For auto financing leads, think of who would be in the market to buy a car.  People searching for the names of dealership or car models may be especially likely targets.  Search engine PPC marketing is a great choice for getting at these people.
  • Particularly unusual offers can be easy targets for low-volume campaigns.  Take, for example, an offer seeking motorized wheelchair leads.  You’ll find the competition is much lower, but you’ll also find that the volume is lower.  For most of us, that’s just fine (though we’d all love to have a $1000/day campaign).

Have you ever used any peculiar lead gen angles?  Let us know in the comments!

CPA Marketing Hit Again - Acai Lawsuits

cpa-marketingCPA marketing is an incredibly exciting field, given the possibilities for overnight riches.  However, what you don’t always see is the potential for immediate losses.  That’s especially true if you don’t stay on the right side of the law.

For years, those of us who paid attention to ads watched as certain affiliates lied, cheated, and stole their way to millions.  they suggested celebrity endorsements that didn’t exist, they used fake images to demonstrate weight loss that never happened, and they promoted the most questionable of companies.  Today, some of those people are finding out exactly why it’s  not a good idea to try to cheat the public in that way.

Oprah and Dr. Oz were frequently used as testimonials or endorsers of numerous acai berry products that affiliates promoted.  Although it’s true that Dr. Oz and Oprah had discussed the potential of acai berries, they certainly didn’t endorse all the questionable products that flooded the market.  Recently, they sued a number of affiliates and companies that were involved in this mass deception and abuse of their images.

The affected affiliates learned a hard lesson, but those of us who are smart will learn from their mistakes rather than repeating them.  Make sure that you promote companies that actually deliver on their promises.  Even a minimal amount of research can save you a lot of trouble down the road.  You should also make sure that your advertising is in accordance with FTC guidelines and your own personal moral code.  You’ll still make a good living, but you’ll sleep a lot better at night.

Quality CPA Marketing

cpa-marketingWhen it comes to CPA marketing, quality is of the utmost importance.  If you send a lot of low quality leads to an offer, it won’t be long before you’re getting kicked off the offer and possibly even removed from the network (if it happens often enough).  When it comes to the issue of quality, a lot of affiliates get defensive and argue that it’s the merchant’s responsibility to convert the leads once they get them. While there is truth to that statement, affiliates still have some responsibility to promote the offer honestly and to send over the best traffic that they can.

Suppose you’re promoting a free trial offer.  Your goal is to send over people who are willing to try the free trial, but the merchant needs to see a certain number of those users turn into paid customers if they are going to be able to continue the offer.  Although you could potentially visit all the freebie sites and tell people how to abuse the offer, that’s not a good idea in the long-run.  It might get you a lot of initial commissions, but advertisers will quickly dump you when they realize that the people you’re sending are only after free samples.

The way to avoid this is to focus on sending people who seem like they will follow through.  If possible, ask your affiliate manager or the advertiser for more details about the ideal customer.  From time to time, you should also check in to see how the quality of your traffic looks.  If it’s good, don’t hesitate to ask for a payout bump.  Most advertisers can support increased payouts for those affiliates who are truly sending good traffic.

Although it’s tempting to go for the short-term profits, remember that you’re trying to build a long-term business.  In order to do that, you have to think about how you can benefit yourself, the customer, and the advertiser.

CPA Marketing Tactics for High Payout Offers

cpa-marketingA lot of affiliates starting out in CPA marketing like to focus on small payout offers like zip and email submits.  Those offers are frequently very easy to convert, but they can also pose a lot of challenges.  Because they pay out so little, they are very difficult to pair with paid advertising.

Promoting offers with higher payouts can be very profitable, but few affiliates have what it takes to make them convert.  To get started, consider these tips.

  • Expensive decisions need trust.  Don’t expect to throw up a short, unprofessional landing page and rake in the cash.
  • Expensive decisions frequently need time. Make sure the offer you’re promoting has a long enough cookie, or that you have a plan in place for staying in touch with your prospect (such as email capture).
  • High payout offers need more testing dollars. In general, 2-3 times the offer payout is a good testing budget.  There are exceptions, such as cases where a single keyword or traffic source eats the entire budget - but it’s a good average metric.  For that reason, a $100 payout offer needs a much larger testing budget than a $1 email submit offer.

It’s not impossible to promote high payout offers.  In fact, it can be a great long-term strategy if you put in the needed time and effort.  Just make sure you’re delivering quality and professionalism before you expect to see results.

Getting Approved for CPA Marketing Networks

cpa-marketingMany affiliates start out with networks like Shareasale and Clickbank, which are relatively easy to get approved to.  What’s harder, though, is getting approved to a CPA Marketing network like Azoogle or Clickbooth.  These networks often run lead-based offers that are prone to fraud, so they have to be especially cautious about who they approve.  That lets them ensure that their advertisers receive the highest quality of leads possible, and it makes the payouts higher for everyone.

Still, the process can be intimidating for a newbie.  Even worse, a lot of networks are starting to become more strict about the type of legitimate affiliates that they approve.  Some are starting to recognize that it takes a lot of manpower to help newbies and that the bulk of their volume comes from established affiliates, anyway.  So, what’s a new affiliate marketer to do?  We’ve created a handy list of tips that can help you get approved.

  • Make sure your application is in order.  Don’t list any fake information, and make sure that you list a phone number that you answer regularly.  They WILL call.
  • Make a sample landing page, even if it’s only a landing page template.  This helps them to see that you know what you’re doing.
  • Get a referral.  Often, it helps if a more experienced affiliate is willing to vouch for you.  Some training programs will even do this through special arrangements they have with affiliate networks.
  • Be professional when they call.  Don’t talk about how you’re just getting started or how you want to quit your job.  They don’t need to know your life history, and it won’t help your application.  Just tell them how you promote products and what kind of traffic you use.
  • Attend industry events.  If networks meet you in person, they see that you’re real and that you’re serious about what you do.

Above all, you just want to make sure that the network gets the impression that they can trust you and that you won’t need so much help that you’re a drain on their staff.  You may not have success with the first network you try, but if you persist, you will be successful.

There are many diwhy-cpa-marketingfferent ways to profit with online marketing and some programs are much easier to succeed with than others and CPA marketing is harder to implement than others. While all the Internet marketing programs are workable and can eventually become profitable you want to choose the one that is right for your level of expertise. All of the programs that are available fall into the same category of affiliate marketing which basically means selling or promoting other people’s products or services and directing them to their websites to take some kind of action and if they do you receive some kind of commission.

One of the more popular programs in affiliate marketing is what’s called CPA marketing which simply means “cost per acquisition” or “cost per action” with this affiliate marketing model what you need to be able to do is drive a lot of traffic to the websites or offers that you are a affiliate for and if your visitor takes some kind of action such as simply signing up for a mailing list or some kind of free trial offer you will earn a commission they don’t necessarily have to buy the product or service. There are many who have chosen this forum of Internet marketing and have become very successful. The downside is that it’s hard to get approved by one of these CPA networks unless you have a huge list and can show you have a lot of traffic to your site If you can qualify the rewards are substantial!
