As a dedicated entrepreneur, you may be experiencing some frustration with the online job market. It’s never easy to get a solid foothold in a new, unfamiliar marketplace, but the task can be simplified greatly with a bit of quality marketing. In order to get the word out about your online business, you might want to consider joining forces with an affiliate or undertaking some affiliate marketing training.

Affiliate marketing basically uses the higher profile of one Web site to drive up traffic on another site through extensive linking. The financial benefits of this practice are self-evident, and it could truly be called a genuine money making system. Most affiliate programs in existence today operate under a revenue sharing system. In other words, the affiliate receives a cut of every sale made on a partner’s site.

Learn Affiliate Marketing From Your Competitors

learn-affiliate-marketingWhen people are trying to learn affiliate marketing, they often look to expensive courses and end up spending thousands and thousands of dollars trying to get started.  This a huge mistake.

Don’t get me wrong – affiliate marketing courses can be tremendously helpful when you’re just getting started.  A good course can lay the foundation for everything you will learn as you progress.  Once you have the basics down, though, you need to step away from the courses unless there is a very good reason to purchase another (such as learning about an entirely new discipline within the field).  What a lot of people don’t realize is that they can save thousands of dollars by using their competitors to learn affiliate marketing.

Regardless of what kind of affiliate marketing you want to do, there’s a way to spy on your competitors.

  • If you want to learn more about email marketing that works, sign up for newsletters in the niches you hope to promote.
  • If you want to do SEO, search the phrases you want to rank for, then use Yahoo! Site Explorer to see the backlinks of the people who are already ranking for those phrases.
  • If you want to do PPC, search the phrases you want to bid on and see who is bidding on them and what kind of landing page they’re using.
  • If you want to do PPV marketing, install popular toolbars on your computer and check out what the other marketers are doing.

Keen observation goes a long way.  The next time you’re thinking about purchasing an expensive course, ask yourself if you could learn much of the same simply by observing your peers.  If the answer is no, then by all means, buy the course.  If it’s yes, see what you can dig up before you pull out your wallet.

The Foolproof Internet Marketing System

directionsEveryone is always looking for the foolproof internet marketing system.  If you’re like me, you probably get at least half a dozen emails every week from gurus claiming that they have a foolproof internet marketing system.  Of course, I’d welcome these emails if I thought that one of them would contain the answer, but the truth is that there is no such thing as a foolproof marketing system.

That’s not to say that there’s no such thing as a system that will teach you to get rich beyond your wildest fantasies – or even just comfortable.  The key is in knowing that no single system is right for all of us.  We have to ruthlessly acknowledge our weaknesses and strengths and then objectively try to determine which course would be right for us as individuals.

If someone tells you that he has the answer for all students, be skeptical.  Remember to ask questions, be a little bit suspicious, and think about whether you have what it takes to follow through with the type of training you’ll be getting.

You should also be extremely cautious about the time estimates.  Just because a guru spends just 15 minutes/day on his system, that doesn’t mean you’ll get the same results.  In fact, you’ll probably have to put it at least 10-15x as much time and effort when you’re getting started.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can find the foolproof internet marketing system.   Not only is it an impossibility, but it’s a great disservice to you.  If you spend all your time looking for the perfect system based on what everyone else says, you may very well pass up the training program that would have worked for you.

5 More Great Sources for Internet Marketing Ideas

internet-marketing-ideasWhen it comes to internet marketing ideas, some of us have more than we could ever use, while others struggle to find one that feels just right.  There are pros and cons to each scenario – too many ideas can make it hard to focus on one, while too few can be discouraging.  For those who are still trying to figure out a direction for their business, these idea sources might help:

  • Trade Magazines – Many can be ordered for free from sites like TradePub.com, and they can be incredibly useful for getting niche ideas.  In general, if a niche is big enough for a magazine, it’s big enough to build a business around.  Pay especially close attention to the cheaper classifieds ads in back, as those are often run by smaller businesses.  Think about each one to see if you could do something similar in an online market, or figure out some way to partner with the businesses you see.
  • Teenagers – Most online marketers are adults.  That means that they’re not always paying attention to what teenagers are doing.  By figuring out what’s cool, you can cash in on under-the-radar topics that could drive huge traffic at lower than normal costs.
  • Top Seller Lists – If you promote physical products, check out the “best sellers” lists on the sites you promote.  Often, the volume on popular products is large enough to justify building an entire site for the topic.  Or, you may find that you become more interested in creating a complementary business.
  • Patent Trolling – Browsing the patent archives can be an oddly stimulating activity.  You can’t help but get inspired by immersing yourself in the ideas of others.  Once your mind is aimed at finding ways to make the world better or easier, you’re bound to come up with a few good ideas.
  • Your Own Free Time – What activities do you turn to when you have nothing else to do?  Moving in the direction of your passion is a great way to get started.

If you’re already focused on your business, let us know how you found your direction!

CPA Marketing Tactics for High Payout Offers

Thursday, March 4, 2010

cpa-marketingA lot of affiliates starting out in CPA marketing like to focus on small payout offers like zip and email submits.  Those offers are frequently very easy to convert, but they can also pose a lot of challenges.  Because they pay out so little, they are very difficult to pair with paid advertising.

Promoting offers with higher payouts can be very profitable, but few affiliates have what it takes to make them convert.  To get started, consider these tips.

  • Expensive decisions need trust.  Don’t expect to throw up a short, unprofessional landing page and rake in the cash.
  • Expensive decisions frequently need time. Make sure the offer you’re promoting has a long enough cookie, or that you have a plan in place for staying in touch with your prospect (such as email capture).
  • High payout offers need more testing dollars. In general, 2-3 times the offer payout is a good testing budget.  There are exceptions, such as cases where a single keyword or traffic source eats the entire budget – but it’s a good average metric.  For that reason, a $100 payout offer needs a much larger testing budget than a $1 email submit offer.

It’s not impossible to promote high payout offers.  In fact, it can be a great long-term strategy if you put in the needed time and effort.  Just make sure you’re delivering quality and professionalism before you expect to see results.

New Affiliate? Internet Marketing Doesn’t Have to Be Intimidating

affiliate-internet-marketingTo a new affiliate, internet marketing can seem incredibly complicated or even impossible to learn.  Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way.  Unless you’re already very familiar with computers and marketing, it will still be a little tough, but there are ways to make the entire process much easier.

  • Choose a specialty and stick with it. Until you have a very solid understanding of your specialization, don’t try to branch out and learn everything.  If you want to do SEO and build free traffic, focus on that.  If you want to do social media, pick a couple of sites and really learn what it takes to succeed there.  Even if you’re not successful, you’ll be simplifying the process of finding what you’re good at.
  • Find a mentor. If you can afford to pay for help from a successful mentor, that’s ideal.  Remember, too, that you’re probably going to need to pay that person for his or her time, not some “percentage of your success after coaching”.  People want to know that you’re serious and successful affiliate get those kinds of offers all the time.  If you don’t have the funds to hire help, get active in a forum of affiliates or find a good coaching forum.  People don’t necessarily have to be successful to help out with a few questions and keep you motivated.
  • Purchase a course in your specialization.  Note that I didn’t say you should buy 20 courses on all different types of internet marketing.  Just figure out the top 1 or 2 courses or ebooks in your chosen area and then read them.
  • Learn to spy on your competition.  Spying on competitors can give you a great idea of what’s working.  Just make sure that you don’t end up spending all your time looking and not enough time actually taking action.

Above all, try not to get discouraged.  It can be extremely frustrating to teach yourself affiliate marketing, especially when your friends and family have no idea what you’re doing on the computer.  It’s all worth it, though, when the checks start showing up in your mailbox.

Is a PPV Affiliate Marketing System Right for You?

affiliate-marketing-systemWith Google on a rampage lately, it seems like PPV courses have become the affiliate marketing system of choice for many.  Even still, a lot of people don’t understand what PPV is – and they don’t understand if it’s right for them.  Before buying into an expensive system, ask yourself whether it suits you.

What is PPV Marketing?

PPV marketing is when advertisers serve ads through pop ups and pop unders, based on sites and keywords that they target.  These ads are paid for on a per-view basis, and they are not considered spyware.  The way they’re powered is that people download games and screensaves and other applications they want.  When they install them, the company also lets them know that they will be installing a toolbar on their browser.  Once installed, that toolbar can generate popups at any time on the user’s computer.

Who Should Do PPV Marketing?

Although PPV marketing doesn’t require the kind of writing skills or page building skills  that might be required with article marketing or Google ads, it still requires some talent.

  • Technical ability – users should be able to understand the multitude of tools that simplify the occasionally overwhelming task of choosing targets and implementing tracking.
  • Good startup capital – PPV networks typically require initial deposits of anywhere from $50-1000.  It can also take a significant amount of money to test out traffic sources and get something profitable.  If you’re counting your pennies, it’s best to stick to cheaper forms of advertising until you get a steady income.

For those who are well-suited to it, PPV represents and enormous income opportunity right now.  If you’re not, though, it can also be a great way to lose a lot of money.  Always know yourself and know your weaknesses!

Affiliate Marketing Training That Works

affiliate-marketing-trainingI’m going to let you in on a little secret about affiliate marketing training.  It’s one you won’t hear often, but it’s also one that anyone who’s been in affiliate marketing very long knows to be true.  Here it is: There is no single magical program that will make you a millionaire.

“What??!” you’re thinking, “But what about all the sales letters and their promises??”

I’m not saying that sales letters are lying, or that you can’t find a system that will teach you things that can make you rich.  Actually, what I’m saying is just the opposite.  Virtually any recent, reputable training program out there can teach you the skills that you can use to create a solid income or even get wealthy online.  What matters is that you follow the training, apply what it teaches, and continually work to improve and refine your skills.

It also matters that you choose a training program that teaches promotional methods that suit YOUR skills.  If you can’t make a landing page to save your life, a course on PPC marketing with Google may involve too many new skills for you to have success in a reasonable amount of time.  On the other hand, if you can barely put together sentences in your chosen language, a course on article marketing probably isn’t the best use of your money.

Basically, I want to encourage you to stop buying every product on the market and to stop worrying so much about finding THE system.  You may not find the right one on your first try, but ultimately, the system that is going to work is the one that suits your skillset and the one you actually follow through on.

Focus: The Key to a Good Affiliate Marketing System

Monday, February 8, 2010
posted by goldeng1 9:29 AM

focus-affiliate-marketing-systemFor an affiliate marketing system to work, it absolutely must be focused.  This may sound obvious, but far too many new affiliates waste time learning numerous different promotional methods, when what they really need is to master a single method and find a bit of success before they try to tackle additional methods.

Affiliate marketing evolves far too rapidly for any single affiliate to become an expert in all promotional methods.  PPC affiliates face constant changes in landing page rules with AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Bing, while SEO affiliates have to keep track of neverending changes to search engine algorithms.  Social media affiliates, on the other hand, have to deal with the changing rules of each site they use, along with the way those sites are indexed and arranged.  Simple changes can force affiliates to change their methods literally overnight.

Keeping up with all those changes can be difficult for even seasoned affiliates.  There’s nothing worse than going on vacation for a week or two, only to come back and find numerous campaigns dead because of something that happened while you were away.  As a newbie, focusing on one method makes it easier to be competent in your chosen area, and it reduces the amount of time needed to become successful.

Have you chosen your area of specialization yet?  Or are you still spinning your wheels and wasting time reading about a dozen different techniques you won’t have time to implement?  It’s time to take a hard look at what you’re doing and see if it’s really working for you.

Internet Marketing Training That Works

internet-marketing-trainingHow many internet marketing training systems have you tried?  More than 5?  More than 10?  More than 20?  There are a lot of people who bounce from course to course, constantly hearing about the latest and greatest new thing.  They read the testimonials, they get enticed by the all-new tools, and they see the gurus buzzing.  The problem, though, is that they fail to realize that the problem isn’t the courses they’ve been buying.  It’s them.

Before you buy another course, stop to think about when the last time was that you actually finished a course and then methodically applied the knowledge to your work, giving it numerous tries before moving on to something new.  If you’re like most people, you have probably never done that.

The very best internet marketing training is not the latest, flashiest, or most expensive course.  It’s the course that you choose based on your interests and needs, and which you actually finish and follow through on.  Without determination and follow-through, no course will help you.
